You know when you are on vacation in the Caribbean and different companies offer snorkeling trips? What types of boats are generally used to take people out on these trips? Are there public companies that run these businesses or are they small private companies that own just one boat?

Usually small private companies take you on these trips. At least all the snorkel trips I have been on. I have been on speed boats with 6 people, 10 people and 20 people (catamaran)I like the small groups better. Some of the individual owners have sail boats that will take you on an excursion. I always ask how many people per excursion when I make reservations.

I have seen big boats with 40 people on them. Too many people in the same water trying to snorkel. That’s more like a booze cruise not a snorkel excursion.

On the websites, they have pictures and you can tell but e-mail them or called the company if you are looking for smaller groups and want to be sure.

    have fun)

Usually smaller 18-22 ft boats with outboard motors!

I don’t know of any public companies here let alone public companies running snorkling sightseeing:)

They vary in size from Yacht size to small 18 footers,or Catamarans which are very fairly new in terms of boating luxury even though the techno, has been a round for some time, many of these operations are base in PR Virgin islands and a few other place were tours are offered like Cayman islands and Belize, all because of the abundance of reefs and its natural aquatic environ.
Many of these { boating } businesses are privately owned and operated if not by one person are a group of individuals in in the tourist trade through third parties who act behalf of a particular hotel chain.
None to my knowledge are indeed publicly owned either by stock exchange are Gov.
Even Cruise ships offer tours as for them am not sure if they are owned by share holder { which is highly possible}.

Just to give you an example take a look at these sites and see the variety of excursions, and also you’ll notice that there boat varies.
